Accurately Calculate The Cost Of Bathroom Renovations

Because no two bathrooms are the same, no two costs of bathroom renovations will be the same. Very similar bathrooms can still have very different costs of bathroom renovations depending on what needs to be done in the renovation.  There are several things that can impact the cost of your bathroom renovation.

Size Of The Floor Space

Accurately calculating the cost of bathroom renovations is going to start with square footage and floor space.  If you are leaving the floors alone, get a good measurement of your wall space.  This will help determine how much of a chosen material you can buy, or even if you can afford it at all.  It may be helpful to draw yourself a little diagram and jot down all the measurements you take.  Always err on the high side if you need to make a guess on a measurement.  This will help you prepare for the worst.

Choosing Materials

The cost of your bathroom renovation will be more accurate if you consider the type of materials you want to use.  For example, you may want to put in granite countertops or custom cabinets, but they can be very expensive.  Perhaps you can contrast some decorative tiles with plain (and cheaper) tiles made from synthetic or composite materials.  If you want to use tile on the floor or walls, you’ll need to decide what kind of tile you want.  Choosing one kind of tile over another, ceramic versus hand crafted, will make all the difference to your cost.

Labor

Get a few estimates rather than go with the first contractor to call back, if at all possible.  Get them to write their estimate down.   Most contractor estimates are free.  This estimate will include labor charges of how many days they think they can do the project.  You should only try to attempt a bathroom renovation on your own if you have experience.  It can increase the cost of your project, your stress level, and the number of things that will need to be corrected.

There are other tools available online, like remodeling cost calculators, if you don’t have the time to meet with several contractors regarding your bathroom.  You’ll need to answer questions about the total square footage of the bathroom and what type of materials you were thinking of using in ode to help the on line calculator do it’s job.
